Lukes run through hell! - Hell Runner 2013 - Hell Up North
Luke ran his very first mud run this year, this isn't your normal run of the mill 5k or 10k mud run....it was the treacherous Hellrunner - Hell Up North, 10-12miles of pure HELL!
His success story begins..... 6 weeks out before the big run on November 2013, I trained with Luke to increase his distance running, uphill running strength, running technique and general tips about mud runs. He improved tremendously and he was able to keep on pushing and increasing his running distance. Soon enough hit the 8-10mile mark comfortably. He continued with resistance training in the gym to improve lower body strength for the steeper hills and climbs.
After weeks of intense training and many morning runs with him in the rain and cold, the day came. He packed his trainers, packed his supplies and he hit this mental run!
His training paid of, Luke ran an amazing time and completed the course without any major injuries and even with a smile on his mud covered face! His time was 3hours 40minutes, which is an incredible feat! This course is deadly, there are hills to make your knees quiver, fallen trees and branches to maneuver over or under and so much thick mud you can (and people do) lose their trainers and posessions in it, not to even mention the black swampy lake you have to virtually swim through for 15-20 minutes! Luke gave it everything, his physical training, mental preparation and pure spirit allowed him to complete this race and more important, really enjoy and embrace it.
With Luke's success of his first mud run he wants to continue this into 2014 and plans to run Hell Runner again and run his first obstacle course, the infamous Tough Mudder. Stay tuned as this man keeps getting stronger, keeps getting faster and keeps getting fitter! I hope to have the pleasure of working with him again soon! Well done Luke!
